When in Rome...

Yesterday saw us marching across Rome to see as much as possible in the short time we had there:

We started early and headed to St Peters Square in Vatican City and walked round the Basilica.

We walked along the Fiume Tevere and stopped for lunch in a nice wee restaurant down a back alley where Alex finally got his greatly anticipated authentic Italian calzone!

Having plesantly filled up we headed to the coliseum where we bartered with the local tour guides (who have prepurchased tickets) saving the long queues and giving us a brief introduction to some of the history whilst we made our way round.

After touring the coliseum and accompanying Palatine Hill we were all suitably zonked, so retired to the apartment for a couple hours R&R. Heading out in the evening we went to find the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain which as our luck would have it were both closed but we did manage to get a peak at the Pantheon in the dark along with a delicious tub of gelato!

Now we are on another 450 mile leg from Rome to Menton with a stop off in Pisa.

P.S. Happy Birthday to me :p
